Back in October when Teddy Cruz paid a visit to our space, he told us about a conference he would speaking at in New York City. Since Teddy's ideas were very inspiring, I decided to go down to NYC and attend the Injured Cities, Urban Afterlives conference.
The conference aims to explore the effects of catastrophe and to imagine more life-affirming modes of redress and reinvention. The conference programme had a long list of speakers I was excited to see such as Ariella Azoulay, Walid Raad, Teddy Cruz, Shirin Neshat, Dinh Q. LĂȘ and Eyal Weizman to name a few. The speakers were asked to imagine creative responses to disaster and explore the effects of catastrophe on cities, their inhabitants and the larger world.
I apologise for the terrible quality, these were taken with my phone which was quite the shaky experience.
