Joshua To

Day 1 with Josh, he introduces various projects he's worked on
The great thing about our programme is that it attracts a diverse range of people interested in working us - from artists to designers to philanthropists to venture capitalists. Joshua To, a former Google man, founder of social entrepreneurship organisation like Brute Labs and now working on a new project called Hattery, spent a week with us and kicked off our latest project: a guide for organisations or individuals who are interested in getting their project off the ground (and keep it going). We based our information on existing guides but the difference was, ours would be highly visual and much more of a summary in order to get people to actually read it but at the same time, get something from the guide.
Late night brainstorming
Briony and I were assigned to the idea generation portion. After going through several sketches and numerous post it notes that were trying working like a flow chart manner and a quiz, we decided to focus on how ideas are actually generated and made it into a mindmap model. The mindmap worked off initial ideas in order to get your ideas flowing, which I think works great when dealing with the concept of the idea whereas a flow chart and a quiz are quite limiting.
Beck and Josh show off the Sip & Bite menus. The entire rebrand was produced by our Professor and programme director Mike Weikert.
(Most) MASD students and faculty with Josh
We spent all week with Josh, working in the studio and taking him out to Sip & Bite at late hours of the night in order to take a break! What I enjoyed about his visit was his engagement with us - he was genuinely interested in our opinions and ideas. Josh has done some fantastic work with Brute Labs by initiating projects like Well Done, and although the former is now only a resource centre living online, his experience inspires me to work harder at creating projects that don't lose the drive and enthusiasm and continue to proceed.
